Hilma M-TECS Magnetic Clamping Systems
For injection and compression molding of plastics and rubber.
The M-TECS electric permanent magnet clamping system securely holds the mold in place, even in the case of a power failure. The permanent magnets generate the required magnetic clamping force independent of any power source. Electrical power is only required for 1-2 seconds to initially magnetize or demagnetise the mold. The M-TECS' electronic controls constantly monitors the various parameters of the magnetic clamping system. The status of the clamp system is interfaced with the machine controls. A fault will signal and shut down the press, protecting the operator and the equipment.

Platen Mounted Limit Switch - This switch is designed to detect the presence of a mold in the injection molding machine. When the mold is in position, the limit switch will be depressed and allow the mold to be clamped. When clamped, the Mtecs controller provides a permissive signal to the machine for press operation.
If the mold starts to separate from the platen, the switch will actuate, causing the e-stop circuit in the press to shut down. The switch has a stroke of .012-.020in ( 0.3-0.5mm) This is a back-up circuit to the detaching sensor circuit.
On M-TECS 130 systems, limit switches are standard features. Both fixed and moveable magnetic platens will have a limit switch located near the center of each platen. The switch is positioned to define the minimum allowable mold size.
On M-TECS 210 Systems the limit switches are optional. Limit Switches are available up to 445°F (230°C).
||Detaching sensor circuit This circuit detects small movement of the mold by monitoring the coils of the magnetic platen. Mold movement will cause a voltage spike in the detaching circuit, this will signal a machine e-stop.
||Thermal Sensor A thermal sensor is integrated into each magnetic platen. If the platen temperature increases above acceptable limit, the platen can lose clamping force and the coils and magnets of the magnetic platens can be permanently damaged.
This sensor monitors the temperature of the magnetic platens, and is designed to stop all operation when the temperature is exceeded. The sensor is activated at 410°F ± 10° F ( 210° C ± 5° C) It is automatically reset.
||SQMC Selector - This keyed selector switch mounted on the S110N Controller Box, or on the customer's machine control panel, disables the operation of the RC.01 Remote Control keyboard.
||Software Scan Circuit - This program, designed within the S110N Controller, periodically scans the system software for proper operation, In the event there is a fault, the injection mold machine is immediately brought to a stop. This circuit is in addition to the constant real time monitoring of the remote sensors.
||Over Cycle 8X Circuit Protection - The S110N Controller is equipped with a program that prevents overheating of the internal circuitry. This circuit prevents the operator from magnetizing and demagnetizing the system more than eight consecutive operations. If the operator attempts to exceed this limit the S110N Controller will not accept any commands for 5 minutes. As an indicator of this condition the LEDS, LCA, and LCB on the remote control panel (as shown) will blink slowly.
Clamp /Unclamp Safety Process - It is very difficult to accidentally magnetize or demagnetize the mold The M-TECS system has four steps that are required to demagnetize the mold
- First, a signal that the press is in set up mode is required from the IMM
- Second, a signal is given with the MTEC key switch that should be turned on after the IMM is in the set up mode
- Third, the operator must press two buttons on the remote pendant at the same time
- Last, these two buttons must be held for at least one second
To magnetize, the platen mounted limit switch must be depressed, then the four steps listed above must also be executed.
M-TECS magnetic clamping system to machine interface
|The following components are part of the standard M-TECS system to be assembled at time of installation:

|* Thermal isolation pads are also supplied when ordered with integrated heated platens.
This interface provides the communication between the S110N control system and the injection molding machine. The interface package is included with a standard M-TECS system.
The machine receives a permissive signal to run by the M-TECS system by means of a contact closure (dry contact). This occurs when the plates have been magnetized, the platen mounted limit switch is closed, and the temperature is within the defined tolerance range.
Set-Up Mode for Mold Change
To magnetize or demagnetise the mold, the machine should be in the set-up mode and in a defined position or state, where a safe mold change can occur, the machine controls can then release the M-TECS system to clamp or unclamp.
Changes to the machine software are normally not required
